Critical Race Tree:
Visualizing Systemic Racism

A workshop by Claire Leunissen, Founder and Director of Xenolearn

What is Critical Race Theory and why is it so controversial right now?

Critical Race Theory is an academic framework to help us understand racial injustice in the present by analyzing the racist ideologies, policies and actions of the past. But even in its simplest form, it can still be difficult to conceptualize or understand. Let alone debunk the false accusations thrown its way.

Critical Race Tree: Visualizing Systemic Racism is a workshop that will equip educators with 4 new visualization exercises. We’ll begin by understanding our own identities and experiences, and how they intersect with one another. Then, we’ll examine the consequences of racism in our own schools/contexts, and work backwards to identify the racist ideologies, policies and actions in the past that caused them. We’ll conclude with an exercise to help us brainstorm solutions and actions that can lead us to racial equity across cultural-ethno-racial groups in our schools.

Don’t be frightened by the “Critical Race Theory” boogieman anymore! Come learn how we can foster antiracist classrooms together!

Perfect For Elementary School Teachers!
